Team check

What does one hour of your team really cost?

Put in salaries, extras and how many hours go to the real work. Use your payroll or a notebook — rough is fine. It all stays in your browser.

Gross or take-home: use whichever your payroll shows. Not sure of the percentage? Your accountant has it.

The real work is what you pay someone for — serving clients, making, selling, delivering. Everything else is waiting, searching, re-doing, chasing and meetings.

Extras: phone, laptop, software, car, desk, training — anything you pay because this person works for you.

When someone leaves

Each person who leaves costs about —. That is — a year.

Counts a new person at half speed while learning. It does not count the work that waits while the seat is empty.

What stands out
    Where I would start

    What the numbers mean

The hourly wage is not what an hour costs you.

On top of the salary come taxes, the phone, the tools, the desk — and the hours that go to waiting, searching, re-doing and meetings. A paid hour and a working hour are not the same thing.

This is rarely about people working too little. Usually the work is set up so that good people lose hours to everything around the job.
